The Davis Wildcats Black, a 13U boy's basketball team went 3 and 0 to win the “Above the Rim” tournament in Roseville.
In the first round of play, with 14 points, Jackson Dwelley led the Wildcats to a 37-30 victory over Napa Club 30 with his solid shooting from 3 point range. Drew Gnos, with six steals, added eight points, Liam Neville scored five, Quinn Williams added four points with eight rebounds while Andrew Bolich, Jacob Johnson and Alex Playdon rounded out the scoring each with two points.
The second game, against EDH Trojans, found the Wildcat’s leading scorers, Dwelley, with 15 points and Gnos with 11 in foul trouble early. The team was able to make adjustments and, with five points and five boards from Bolich, four points from Williams, three from Neville and two from Playdon, the Wildcats won 40-38 in overtime.
In the championship game, it was excellent rebounding by Williams and Gnos along with dominant offense across the board that led the Wildcats to a 40-26 victory over the Berkeley Ballhawks. Gnos and Williams led the scoring with eight points each, followed by Johnson and Dwelley each with six points, while Bolich, Playdon and Robert Sandel each contributed four.
