5th/6th Grade Team Wins Xtreme Hoops Tournament

On Saturday, May 8, 2010, the 5th and 6th grade girls' basketball team gunned their way to a first place finish at the Xtreme Hoops Championship, held at sites in Rocklin and Roseville.

In the championship matchup with the Chico Blazin' Heat, the Wildcats relied on full-court pressure and an effective transition game to build a 14-point halftime lead, and coasted to a 34-16 victory.

In the opening rounds, the Wildcats edged out South Reno in overtime, 32-29, then unleashed a deluge on the Sierra Storm, 31-7.

The Wildcats were led by Rachel Allison, Anna Belenis, Kathy Chen, Sarah Cordano, Sage Furman, Kelly Goedde-Matthews, Kate Lee, Claire Mitchell, Essence Moore, Katherine Murdock and Maegan Sperry.

On February 6th, the 5th/6th grade "Black" team took first place in the Girls Grade 6 Division of the Sacramento Area Sports Tournament at Foothill Farms Jr. High School in Sacramento with a 31-26 win over the Mission Rec Club. Gigi Garcia had a tournament-high 22 points in the finals, with Rachael Allison, Maggie Oys and Claire Mitchell combining for nine points and 17 boards.

In the first round, the Wildcats edged out the El Dorado Hills Cyclones, who employed a full-court press most of the game. The Wildcats were led by Allison's 12 points and six steals. Garcia contributed nine points and Oys added seven points in the winning effort.

In the second round, the Wildcats ran away from South Reno, 38-18. Allison lifted her team again, with a game high 18 points and 9 boards. Maegan Sperry, Anna Belenis, Katie MacKenzie and Katherine Murdock combined for another 10 points and nine rebounds.


The "Maroon" team split four games in the Girls Grade 5-6 Division of the Sacramento Area Sports Tournament in Sacramento. In a 41-7 victory over the MRC Rebels, Kelly Goedde-Matthews pumped in a game-high 14 points. Kathy Chen added eight points of her own to go with a whopping six steals on the defensive end. Catherine Slabaugh, Cara Satre, Sage Furman, Sarah Cordano and Andrea Rios balanced out the attack with a combined 19 points. In an outstanding performance on the glass, Cordano hauled in a game-high 17 rebounds.

In a 30-28 squeaker over the Pacific Pistols, Goedde-Matthews and Chen again led the attack with 10 points apiece. Chen had another six steals and Cordano added seven boards.


 

Girls Grades 5/6 Teams Rock the Hardwood Palace!

"Maroon" Team Takes First;
"Black" Team takes Second!

On Saturday, January 23rd, the "Maroon" team took home the hardware, earning first place in the Girls Grade 5-6 Division of the Xtreme Hoops Tournament at Hardwood Palace in Rocklin. In its first round game, the Wildcats dispatched a tough Roseville squad by a score of 30-17. The Wildcats were led by Kathy Chen's 10 points. Claire Mitchell and Sarah Cordano combined for 16 boards, while Kelly Goedde-Matthews contributed eight boards, four assists and four steals.

In the semifinals, the Wildcats topped the Hotshots, 28-16. Catherine Slabaugh led the Wildcats with eight points, while Kate Lee and Andrea Rios each chipped in four points.

In the finals, the Wildcats secured the first-place trophy with a 24-20 squeaker over the Loomis Swish. Sage Furman and Cara Satre led the charge defensively, holding the Swish without a basket over the final four minutes.


On Saturday, January 23rd, the " Black" team won two games and dropped a third in the Girls Grade 6 Division of the Xtreme Hoops Tournament at Hardwood Palace in Rocklin. In its first round game, the Wildcats edged out One Nation in overtime by a score of 30-28. The Wildcats were led by Anna Belenis's nine points, with six points from Rachael Allison and six boards and three steals from Katherine Murdoch.

In the second round, the Wildcats fell to the South San Francisco Bulldawgs, 39-28, in a contest that was close until the final minutes. Gigi Garcia led the way with nine points, 14 rebounds and six steals. Maggie Oys chipped in four points and Katie MacKenzie collected four boards and a pair of steals.

The Wildcats captured second place in the tourney with a 34-20 pounding of the Hurricanes. Garcia was dominant on both ends, with 22 points, 10 boards and seven steals. Maegan Sperry contributed seven points and a pair of steals in the victory.


Girls 5th/6th Grade Team Finishes 3rd in Xtreme Hoops Challenge

On Saturday, December 5th, the Wildcats' Girls Grade 5/6 team took 3rd place in the the "Xtreme Hoops Challenge" at Hardwood Palace in Rocklin.

In the second place game, the Wildcats fell to the South Reno Shooters, 28-22. The Wildcats were led by Rachael Allison's six rebounds and four steals, to go with a team-high seven points. Maggie Oys chipped in five points and strong post defense for the Wildcats.

In a second round loss on Saturday, the Wildcats could not quite solve the full court pressure of a veteran El Dorado Hills Cyclones team. The Wildcats' Katie MacKenzie, Maegan Sperry and Allison dominated the glass, combining for 21 rebounds in the loss.
